The Lostness Cycles on tour

Second outing for The Lostness Cycles! But with a difference – this time one of the mutascope machines will have a new drum of images. Commissioned by North East Photography Network towards the end of last year, the new drum will be on show for the first time at Joseph Swan & Photography in Sunderland (plus Joseph Swan inspired thaumatropes created for the event by Lucy).

Also at the event: artist Karolina Maciagowska will demonstrate her new work with the collodion process; Andy Martin will display portraits created using collodion process and a Mawson and Swan camera dated from 1880-1890s; architecture and design historian Michael Johnson will talk about the history of event venue The Athenaeum Building and surroundings; Paul Cordes (Newcastle Photography Festival) will talk about Joseph Swan’s many photographic patents; and North East Photography Network Programme Manager and Senior Lecturer at the Northern Centre of Photography at University of Sunderland, Carol McKay, will introduce a new photography research project by the Northern Centre of Photography.

Co-produced by NEPN and Breeze Creatives, Joseph Swan and Photography in Sunderland will take place 6–8pm on Wednesday 1st February at The Athenaeum Building, 27 Fawcett Street, Sunderland SR1 1RE.
